Tokány (Hungarian stew): A Harmonious Blend of Hungarian Flavors

Ingredients:

    800 g beef (chuck roast, stewing meat)

    2 onions

    2 tablespoons lard

    1 tablespoon paprika

    1 kg potatoes

    1 bay leaf

    10 cloves

    1 teaspoon whole peppercorns

    salt

    water

    1 bunch parsley

 

Instructions:

    Cut the beef into cubes.

    Chop the onions.

    Fry the onions in the lard, then add the paprika.

    Fry briefly, then add the beef.

    Fry until browned, then season with salt and pepper and add water.

    Cover and simmer the meat until tender.

    Add the diced potatoes, bay leaf, cloves, and peppercorns.

    Continue cooking until the potatoes are soft.

    Season with parsley.

 

Tips:

    Tokány can be served with fresh bread, dumplings, or spaetzle to taste.

    You can also season the tokány with sour cream.

    You can also cook tokány in a cauldron.
