Texas Chili Con Carne Recipe

Texas Chili Con Carne is a hearty and flavorful one-pot meal made with ground beef, beans, spices, and chili sauce. Here's how to make it:

 

Ingredients:

    1 pound sliced beef

    1 medium onion, chopped

    2 cloves garlic, minced

    1 tablespoon olive oil

    1 teaspoon chili powder

    1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

    1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

    1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

    1 (15 oz) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed

    1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes, drained

    1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce

    1 cup beef broth

    Salt and pepper to taste

 

Instructions:

    Brown the sliced beef: Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the sliced beef and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Drain off any excess grease.

    Sauté the vegetables: Add the onion and garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.

    Add the spices: Stir in the chili powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, and nutmeg. Cook for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.

    Add the remaining ingredients: Add the kidney beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30-40 minutes, or until the chili has thickened.

    Serve: Serve the chili con carne hot with toppings like sour cream, cheddar cheese, rice, or tortilla chips.

 

Tips:

    You can use a slow cooker to make chili con carne. Cook on low for 6-8 hours.

    Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to your taste.

    Chili con carne can be frozen. Let it cool completely before freezing.
