Layered Cabbage: A Mouth-Watering Hungarian Classic

Layered cabbage is a beloved dish in Hungarian cuisine, made with layers of sauerkraut, minced meat, sausage, sour cream, and spices. The sourness of the cabbage is balanced by the creaminess of the sour cream, the sausage adds a smoky flavor, and the spices give it a kick. Ingredients:

    1 head of sauerkraut

    500 g minced pork

    200 g sausage

    500 g sour cream

    1 onion

    2 cloves garlic

    1 egg

    salt

    pepper

    paprika

    oil

 

Instructions:

    Rinse the sauerkraut and cut it into thin strips.

    Mix the minced meat with the finely chopped onion and garlic, the egg, salt, pepper, and paprika.

    Slice the sausage into rings.

    Grease a baking dish with oil, then layer the cabbage, minced meat, and sausage.

    Pour over the sour cream and bake, covered, for 1-1.5 hours at 180 °C (350 °F).

 

Tips:

    You can also layer potatoes with the cabbage for a heartier dish.

    You can mix crushed garlic and paprika into the sour cream for extra flavor.

    Serve layered cabbage fresh, with sour cream and crusty bread.
