Japanese Gyudon Recipe

Ingredients:
7 oz thinly sliced beef
1 small or 1/2 large onion
1 tsp grated ginger
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp sake
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp mirin
3.4 fl oz water
½ tbsp dashi powder (can be substituted with vegetable broth powder)
2 eggs
Beni shoga (pickled ginger)
Shichimi (Seven spice chili - oriental spice mix, optional)
Chopped spring onion (can be substituted with chives)
2 cups cooked rice
Instructions:
Slice the onion.
Grate the ginger.
In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, sake, sugar, mirin, and water.
Heat oil in a pan and fry the onion.
Add the beef and fry until it turns white.
Pour in the soy sauce mixture and cook for about 10 minutes.
Cover the pan and simmer until the onion is soft.
Boil water and put the eggs in. Let it sit for 20 minutes.
Rinse the eggs with cold water and break them into a bowl.
Serve the rice, then top with the beef and onion.
Put an egg on each serving, sprinkle with chopped spring onion, pickled ginger and shichimi (optional).
Tips:
You can substitute pork for beef.
You can cook the eggs to your liking.
You can also serve miso soup with gyudon.
